Granite, marble, slate, travertine, limestone, onyx, soapstone, and other natural stones can be cleaned daily with a mild dish soap and warm water and should be rinsed thoroughly and dried with a cloth. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film or cause streaks. Aerosol cans of Soapstone and other natural stone cleaners are available to quickly and effectively eliminate streaks. Do not use products that contain lemon, vinegar, or other acids. Scouring powders or creams also should not be used.

In the bath or other wet areas, using a squeegee after each use can minimize soap scum. To remove soap scum, use a non-acidic soap scum remover or a solution of ammonia and water (about 1/2 cup of ammonia to a gallon of water). Frequent or over-use of an ammonia solution may eventually dull the surface.

All natural stone products should be sealed yearly with a Silicone Impregnating Sealer to prevent staining. Sealing is a quick, inexpensive process. No professional sealing is required. A kitchen of average size should take relatively fifteen minutes and cost under $15.00. Food preparation areas and vanity tops may need to be sealed more often. In outdoor pool, patio, or hot tub areas, flush with clear water and use a mild bleach solution to remove algae or moss.
